What the heck!

I went to big lots today for the first time in a long time. As I tried to grab the cart to put Nova in I noticed they were chained to one another. At first I thought "Maybe they do this so they can bring them in easier and forget to unlock the chain", but next I noticed the coin slot. They want a DEPOSIT for the carts! WTF??? When did they start happening and is this going to the be new thing all the stores are doing? If so then let me tell you they are going to have some pissed people mainly the ones like me who never have change on them. Not using cash as much as reduced the amount of change in my pocket or in actuality the bottom of my purse. Therefore now I have to remember to bring a darn quarter just to get the cart to buy their merchandise. WTF?

I just can't get over this.

BTW as and FYI I went to my super secret change stash and now it's in my purse so that I am prepared.

What the heck?

To make a long story short this is how it went down:

"Hey you need to re-do your book club site!"
"Why"
"You are taking up space on my server or (some other computer mumble jumble that I spaced out)"
"Fine by me blogger is free!" (see the rhyme?)
"Tell your friends"

so this is it the new site or really the old site I just copied and pasted the past post too. As of the 15 the old site is no longer mine. It's sad but I'll be fine.
(look another rhyme)

More about the next book choice

Once I found out about the book Who Killed My Daughter by Lois Duncan I visited the website that is dedicated to solving this horrible crime. It is a very through site with more information that has been discovered since the book has been written, also there is an excerpt from the follow up book Mrs. Duncan is writing. Once I read the book I left a message on the site for her. The following is the message and question I left and Mrs. Duncan's reply.
Question: I grew up reading your books and recently decided that I wanted to reread them. After going to the Albuquerque (where I live) Page One bookstore I looked for the books but they were out of them. Then one of the rep told me about your story and I knew that I wanted to read it. I got it from Amazon. I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter and the way she was taken from you and your family. I am disgusted at the way APD treated this case and you as well. I am so sadden to hear that they have not made any effort to solve this case and am somewhat frightened to know that NM is so heavily involved in this mess. I have set this book as the next book to read for my book club. I hope that with continued interest Kaitlyn's case will never be put to rest until it is solved.

Here is the link to the site and my question/reply
http://kaitarquette.arquettes.com/

Do you still make contact with her by psychic or after she sent to the note in the civil war book did she cross over?
Asked on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 09:09:33 PM

Reply: Thank you for making the effort to order WHO KILLED MY DAUGHTER?. I hope that you, and anyone else who is reading this and lives in Albuquerque, will suggest to Page One and other book stores that they stock this book. If there's one place in the country I want it to be easily available, it's Albuquerque.

I did continue to have what I consider "visitation dreams" for several years after the book was published. Then, in one of those dreams, Kait said, "I can't do this anymore." I asked her, "Why?" and she said, "It's been too long." I never had a visitation dream again.

However, I still occasionally have dreams that are different from regular dreams and contain information about the case. When our private investigator follows up on it, it turns out to be valid. I don't know if that information is coming from Kait or from some other source.
Answered by: Kait

I am going to ask Page One to re-order some and give them to my mom and sister to read. I think once you read this book you will be as touched by it as I was.

After the break the book will be
Submitted by Natalie on Mon, 2008-09-22 03:47.
Before I tell you what the new book is I wanted to give some info. Since we have usually taken the holidays for a break we will do that this year but take and extra month. That will give Misty time to bond with her new baby if he ever decides to be born.lol Shalini is pretty busy with her paper and Heather with work. Sarah is in her first trimester so I know she is tired. I think the rest of us are busy, I know I am suppose to be getting my sub test done and my applications stuff for cnm. I am sure Kim and Lanette are busy as well so lets just take a break and get refocused so we can come back and start new. If anyone would like to get together before the holidays lets do that! Ok so since the last meeting consisted of Misty and I then there wasn't anyone to suggest a new book. Everyone is busy so I am calling the new book. It will be Who Killed my Daughter by Lois Duncan. Now I picked this book because I have been wanting to re-read her books I read many moons ago. Many are out of print and when I asked the book lady from Page One she recommended this book. I came home and did some research and am very interested in reading it. If you want to look at the info go to her website. I think this book will make a good discussion.

Most likely the libraries will have the book but amazon has it used for a penny. With shipping it was $4.00.

Ok well I look forward to discussing the book but I hope we can have a movie night or something before the New Year. I'll keep you posted.

The turnout
Submitted by Natalie on Sun, 2008-09-14 22:55.
We had our meeting last night for The Giver. Sadly only Misty and I could make it. Sarah was not feeling well as was Allyson so Lanette was out. (Hope the baby and Sarah are better:( Shalini has been busy with her paper and Heather is out of town along with Kim. Sharon has been swamped with school. Therefor we held a little meeting last night but I think this book deserved to be discussed further. What I would like to do is to revisit the book at the next meeting. Further instructions to come...

September book choice
Submitted by Natalie on Mon, 2008-08-25 18:33.
Misty has picked the sept. book choice. It is The Giver by Lois Lowry. Since she is almost ready to pop the book is a small one with less that 200pg so everyone should have an easy time reading this book. And you have to read it and finish it because the ending is one that we need to talk about. It is an easy read that you'll enjoy. You can find out more at this link. If you go into a store to buy it you'll find it in the childrens' section. Also Misty said that Page One too has it as well.

Submitted by Natalie on Tue, 2008-08-19 16:58.
Sarah has some exciting news. She is going to have a new baby! At this point it's pretty early so I don't have a due date to share but sometime next year there will be yet a new baby to share at our meetings. So far that makes four new little ones that we will have added. Are we a fertile group or what? Congratulations to Sarah and Chesley!!!

My letter of Rage
Submitted by Natalie on Thu, 2008-08-07 03:51.
This is a copy of the letter I recently had posted on My3cents.com and addressed in an e-mail to Target to pretty much told me that I stole my camera from their store. (By telling me they have no "record" of my purchase even though it's on my bank statment!!!)

As follows

My husband and I increased our shopping at Target because we no longer wanted to give Wal-Mart our money. In the past 8 months we have easily spend at least $2,300 which is a lot for our family and we were happy to spend it at Target opposed to other stores. On May 9th, 2008 we purchased several items from Target. The main purchase was a Kodak EasyShare M893 IS Digital camera. This was a special purchase for me because it was my mother's day present. Off and on we have had some small problems with the camera but not huge ones. Then on the 3rd of August it stopped working. I had the box and all the inclusions but did not have the receipt. I took the product back to Target to be informed that I didn't buy the product from their store. I explained to the associate that I did buy it from Target but at the location closer to my husband's office. They told me that it showed up as a silver camera (mine is orchid) and that it wasn't registering on my visa or on my blank check. I then remembered that my husband paid the bill for it and returned 2 days later with his visa card. Again I was told that it wasn't from there but they then decided it was but couldn't find a record of it being on his card. They told me I could go to the location I bought it from and they would check their report from the day I purchased it and it would show up. I did as they told me and when to the location I purchased it from and had the same problem. They said it was from there but was not registering on the computer. I asked for a supervisor and a young man showed up and said he would look on the report for it. He came back and said that he didn't find any indication it was sold then. I explained to him that I had the purchase on my bank statement and asked him if he wanted me to find out the exact amount and he said that if I did that they would be able to find it. I called my husband and he gave me in info so I wouldn't have to leave the store. Then I called my bank to find out the exact date of purchase (5/9/08) and the date it showed on my statement (5/12/08) I returned to the customer service counter and was informed that the supervisor left (he told me he was going to do the research). She then asked for another supervisor and a young boy showed up. I again explained to him my situation and he said he would look up the info, but not before he stopped to chat it up with another young boy. Then after several minutes he informed me that on the 12th there was not an amount equal to what I had stated. I asked him why he didn't look at the 9th like I requested and he said "You want me to look at the 9th too?" which I again told him what the date of purchase was and he left only to return in a few minutes to tell me there was not a purchase amount like mine and that they couldn't do anything. I then asked for his supervisor but of course she wasn't there and he told me she had the same policy. Once home I called the target hot line only to get a foreign person on the phone. I again explained my story only to be told that they were sorry for my disappointment but that she couldn't help me. When I asked her why my amount was on my bank statement but why not on their computer she again told me she was sorry about my disappointment. After several more comments like that I then asked for her supervisor. She then transferred me to another representative who again told me she was sorry for my disappointment but that policy is policy. Frustrated I hung up and spent the rest of the night trying to decided if I will ever shop at Target again. It is also worth mentioning that my camera was just one in a long list of products I have purchased from Target only to have had to return or be disappointed with. I am not sure why this company would rather lose a customer that is likely to spend 7 to 10% of their yearly income at their store than to replace a $160.00 dollar camera? I am so DISAPPOINTED in their customer service that I think it will be a long while before I can return to their store.

The best time of the year!!!
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2008-08-01 15:41.
I have to say that I am getting excited again. It is quickly coming up on my favorite time of year. The time between August-December is just the best time of the year. To begin there is the excitement of going back to school. (Now that I have my own kids I see it still). Next comes the smell of chili roasting. I have blogged before how much I love that smell but I just have to say again how I love it. Then comes the lower temps which is always a plus although not being pg this summer I have to say that it has been less horrible this year although I have kept the kids in a lot and done the parks when the temps go down. Anyway then is the color change followed by all the great Birthdays. Actually we kick that part of with Kennedy’s and then we have at least one family member having a b-day every month until Jan and Feb, then March and April we get some more. This year we have an added b-day with my little Nova!! Just thinking she should be walking by Thanksgiving is crazy! Let’s not forget the Holidays. I start to look forward to Halloween in Sept. I love to think of all the cool costumes these girls can have. I am really pushing for vampires this year; want to do a whole Smile box to the Vampire song from Juno. Then there is Thanksgiving which this year I think I am going to let someone else host this year! Then one of the best things of all, 99.5 plays non-stop x-mass music from Thanksgiving till New Years! That it awesome and my fav thing. I might have to put some on today just thinking about it. On to the Parade of Lights with Shane's work team. That was so much fun last year I am really looking forward to it this year. Then comes the shopping of presents. Not the best part but you know it's still not too bad. Now comes Christmas and all that it entails. Let’s begin with the tree. I love it love it love it. I love the tree part!!! I just hate taking it down:( You begin to wonder when will It’s a Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Story, and Elf, and A Very Brady Christmas come on? (Just kidding about the Brady one!) Then comes the wrapping of presents and putting it under the tree. Now the only part about wrapping that I detest it the final hour of x-mass eve when my beloved mom pulls out all the presents she didn't get wrapped! Let me tell you that when you are dog tired and wrapping the 44th present when you can hardly keep your eyes open and all you care about it getting it done and Fred is trying to come into the room but can't because his stuff isn't wrapped and you and April keep fighting over tape and Mom lost her pen again and lets not forget that the stupid bows (I never put bows on my x-mass gifts they are a waste of material!) that have the sticker that never works right well that present comes out looking like Kennedy wrapped it. Then the morning comes, too early of course, but it comes and the kids are just thrilled and then the tear fest begins but it was a happy day! Then there is the sharing of stories over the dinner meal and families memories of Christmas past and I am getting weepy now as we remember our loved ones who we have lost but not really. And that is why I love it. Then the next few days are pretty good too but then comes the new year and then I start to get sad because my fav. time of year is pretty much over and I have to wait for 7 1/2 months for it again.

This is one of my favorite urban legends
Submitted by Natalie on Tue, 2008-07-22 02:26.
Paleoanthropology Division
Smithsonian Institute
207 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC 20078

Dear Sir:

Thank you for your latest submission to the Institute, labeled "211-D, layer seven, next to the clothesline post. Hominid skull." We have given this specimen a careful and detailed examination, and regret to inform you that we disagree with your theory that it represents "conclusive proof of the presence of Early Man in Charleston County two million years ago." Rather, it appears that what you have found is the head of a Barbie doll, of the variety one of our staff, who has small children, believes to be the "Malibu Barbie". It is evident that you have given a great deal of thought to the analysis of this specimen, and you may be quite certain that those of us who are familiar with your prior work in the field were loathe to come to contradiction with your findings. However, we do feel that there are a number of physical attributes of the specimen which might have tipped you off to it's modern origin:

# 1. The material is molded plastic. Ancient hominid remains are typically fossilized bone.

# 2. The cranial capacity of the specimen is approximately 9 cubic centimeters, well below the threshold of even the earliest identified proto-hominids.

# 3. The dentition pattern evident on the "skull" is more consistent with the common domesticated dog than it is with the "ravenous man-eating Pliocene clams" you speculate roamed the wetlands during that time. This latter finding is certainly one of the most intriguing hypotheses you have submitted in your history with this institution, but the evidence seems to weigh rather heavily against it. Without going into too much detail, let us say that:

* A. The specimen looks like the head of a Barbie doll that a dog has chewed on.

* B. Clams don't have teeth.

It is with feelings tinged with melancholy that we must deny your request to have the specimen carbon dated. This is partially due to the heavy load our lab must bear in it's normal operation, and partly due to carbon dating's notorious inaccuracy in fossils of recent geologic record. To the best of our knowledge, no Barbie dolls were produced prior to 1956 AD, and carbon dating is likely to produce wildly inaccurate results. Sadly, we must also deny your request that we approach the National Science Foundation's Phylogeny Department with the concept of assigning your specimen the scientific name "Australopithecus spiff-arino." Speaking personally, I, for one, fought tenaciously for the acceptance of your proposed taxonomy, but was ultimately voted down because the species name you selected was hyphenated, and didn't really sound like it might be Latin.

However, we gladly accept your generous donation of this fascinating specimen to the museum. While it is undoubtedly not a hominid fossil, it is, nonetheless, yet another riveting example of the great body of work you seem to accumulate here so effortlessly. You should know that our Director has reserved a special shelf in his own office for the display of the specimens you have previously submitted to the Institution, and the entire staff speculates daily on what you will happen upon next in your digs at the site you have discovered in your back yard. We eagerly anticipate your trip to our nation's capital that you proposed in your last letter, and several of us are pressing the Director to pay for it. We are particularly interested in hearing you expand on your theories surrounding the "trans-positating fillifitation of ferrous ions in a structural matrix" that makes the excellent juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex femur you recently discovered take on the deceptive appearance of a rusty 9-mm Sears Craftsman automotive crescent wrench.

Yours in Science,

Harvey Rowe
Curator, Antiquities

Variations:

* Sometimes the letter is directed to one Scott West of Newport, Rhode Island. In those versions, the curator who supposedly wrote the letter is Harold Jameson, not Harvey Rowe.

Origins: This tongue-in-cheek "letter" has been entertaining netizens in e-mail since 1994.

A story that good should be true. But it's not.

The letter is a charming bit of fiction; none of the details check out. Harvey Rowe of the Smithsonian doesn't exist. (Which is indeed our loss. What a talent for gentle sarcasm!) Moreover, the Smithsonian doesn't have an antiquities department.

If you call up and ask to speak to the mythical Harvey Rowe, the operator will put you through either to Anthropology or the Smithsonian's public affairs officer. Either way, you'll be greeted with "There's nobody here by that name." You won't be the first such caller, either. Far from it, the Smithsonian is heartily sick of being asked about Harvey Rowe.

There's also no hopeful backyard paleontologist busily excavating the land around his clothesline and implacably sending specimen after bogus specimen off to the Smithsonian. That too is fabrication.

There is a Harvey Rowe, but not of the Smithsonian. In the spring of 1994 and while a graduate student at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina, he wrote what has become known as the Smithsonian Barbie letter. In a fit of creativity, he tossed off this mythical response to a backyard digger, then shared his writing effort with a small circle of friends. One of those friends sent the piece to others, and thus Smithsonian Barbie entered into the world of e-lore.

Something that I'll never forget
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2008-07-18 05:16.
Today I read that Michelle Duggar is on her 18th baby. I am fascinated with her and her family, not because I want an army of children by any means but the fact that she had been through 16 pregnancies amazes me. I also read something about her today that I didn't read before, after her first child was born she went back on bc and had a miscarriage. That seemed to cause her and her husband to stop preventing and start accepting and praying for as many babies as they could have. Now 41 and she is having her 18th. Anyway it caused me to think about the miscarriage I had. I think about it a lot actually, at least a few times a week. It isn't the heartbreak that it was in the beginning the pain has eased but still I know that I was suppose to have another child, that I did have another one. Then I think "Well if I had that baby I wouldn't have Nova" and I cannot imagine my life without her. However it was an experience that I would not have like to have. The odd thing about it that until I had mine I didn't really know many people who had had one, especially my age. Then once it happened I discovered so many people had experienced it. It is like a horrible club that you suddenly are a par of without wanting to join. Wile I was pg with Nova that I constantly thought I was going to loose her, a fear that I didn't have with the other girls. For the first few months until I got to that second trimester I just waited for her to stop growing and for the pg to go away like before. Even after the first trimester I still had the fear, it lessened but it still lingered. One thing I thought was ironic is that most people wait until the second trimester to tell people just in case something happens. I never did that before, with Ava and Kennedy I knew at 6 weeks that I was pg. With the baby I lost I found out about the same time but I only told my immediate family and my parents and sister. My brothers didn't even know. And look at what happened. With Nova I briefly thought I would wait but that felt wrong and didn't. Luckily my miscarriage was a one time thing. (I hope that never happens again) Once I had her in my arms I FINALLY felt like I took take a breath and let it pass. I think that having Nova so soon was a blessing to me, one that I didn't seek or really want but she was there nevertheless. Until I found out I was pg again I thought about the miscarriage everyday and it was heartbreaking. Nova didn't replace that baby but she lessened the pain. This is what I was thinking about with the Duggar Family. Maybe that is a small small part of their reason for having their enormous family, because for them preventing one caused them to loose one and they don't ever want to go through that pain again. For that I completely understand. Recently the bookclubers and I were discussing the pains labor and for me my miscarriage pain was the worse. The combination of delivering (I was early but still I went thorough labor) and not having something to have after it was unbearable. I remember calling my mom and asking her if she ever thought I would be normal again. (I also called my mom after Shane and I had Ava and told her I think I made a big mistake!lol Hormones cause you to have some moments) 21 months and a beautiful baby girl later it is better but not forgotten. And tonight I have a better understanding for the Duggar Family.

Just a little bit more

The new and improved book choice is

First NKOTB, Now FRIENDS...
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2008-07-04 03:34.
The highly anticipated film production of TV series Friends has finally been given the go-ahead, MailOnline is reporting. Cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer will reprise their roles for a big-screen adaptation ‘within the next 18 months’, according to insiders.

The actors have been inspired by the recent success of Sex And The City, which recently hit cinemas worldwide. The highly anticipated film production of TV series Friends has finally been given the go-ahead.

A source said: ‘Jennifer, Courteney and the rest of the cast are keen to reprise their roles, under the right circumstances. ’The box office success of Sex And The City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right.

‘Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions.’ Talk of a reunion for the loveable gang from New York’s Central Perk has been bandied around Hollywood ever since the show aired its final season in 2004. While Cox, 44, LeBlanc, 40, Perry, 39, Kudrow, 45 and Schwimmer, 41, were believed to be keen on the reunion, Aniston, 39, is believed to have dragged her heels.

Now, however, she is keen to move ahead with the project, which will be produced by Warner Bros.

OK PEOPLE YOU HAVE THANKED ME FOR THE NKOTB COMING BACK, NOW YOU CAN THANK ME FOR FRIENDS. LET ME SEE WHAT I CAN DO AND WITH LUCK WE WILL HAVE A NEW GWTW MOVIE MADE. I'M JUST LIKE SHANE BRINGING ALTERNATIVE TO GRANTS!!!

Something I can't get out of my head...
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2008-07-04 03:14.
The monkids or Monkey Kids. Maybe you saw them on the Outsiders the other night. People who for varied reason adopted Monkeys to raise as "children". I just can't forget about that program. I can't even tell you what I think about the people who take this on because I have mixed feelings for them. I feel sad for them in a way. For whatever reason many of them cannot have children and therefore need to fill the void that they have. One lady said she had an empty nest syndrome and got her monkey so that she would never be without a "child". And this is the one I just can't stop thinking about. First her "daughter" dresses up better than Nova. She had her everyday clothes, and her dresses, including at least once fancy dress. This is only the beginning. Her "daughter" eats at the table in a high chair and for the most part obeys the parent better than most human kids or humkids as they further be refered to. She eats a lot of crap though, like lollipops, candy, and monkey fries. (French fries). Amazingly she isn't overweight like some of the monkids. One monkey showcases was really chubby. It was odd to see a fat monkey and the fact that he looked like a chubby scary version of Eddie Munster didn't help this impression. And his bedroom was beyond any humkids fantasy let alone a monkid. Sadly he eventually turned on him mom who came to the realization (as most owner seem to) that these children were wild animals and no matter how dressed up they were or how loved, their innate nature was wild. Not all parents come to that conclusion, the lady with the "daughter", who's "kid" bite another child at the playground (Hello! If you have a humkid and you are at the playground and you see a monkid you should, as an adult, looked past the clothes and accessories and NOT let your child play with the monkid. Even if he does have cooler sneakers than your kid, even if he has the latest IPOD, it doesn't matter. Don't give into the peer pressure, children and monkids do not mix!) Anyway this "mom" continues, along with the dad who get mad when his "daughter" is referred to as a monkey, to raise her baby just as she had for 18 yrs! Yeah, 18 years! Is it just me or is that just a tad to long to be changing diapers. (Yup that right! Diapers Diapers Diapers)

Sometimes you got to wonder what the next trend is going to be. Remember when people got those hermit crabs were popular? You could wear them in a necklace? Maybe I'll be able to start the next animal trend. Like a sloth. I'm going to wait until these girls move out on their own and then get me a sloth. A big fat one with all it's shots.

The Hell that is Radio Disney's Jonas Brother's Party!
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2008-06-27 03:11.
Why I thought that a night with screaming Jonas Brother's fans would be fun I do not know, what I do know is that Radio Disney needs to get their stuff together before they throw another party. You have no idea how much Ava was looking forward to this event held at the Balloon Muesuem. It has been advertised for at least a month and after watching "Camp Rock" she eagerly anticpated this night. So we get to the event and it was packed, although it wasn't as big as the Junie B. Jones book signing but still there was a decent crowd. However the problem was that the set-up was horrible. The "big event" was suppose to be a competetion for the all coveted "Signed by the Jonas Brothers ""Guitar"". Notice my double quotations about the guitar:( Ok, so there was a set up in this small corner of the RD DJ's, and then a space, and then kids and their parents. But so many parents were crowded that Ava and Kennedy couldn't even get to where the kids were sitting, much less see anything. Then we realized that the "contest" started and basically the kid who had the most family there to clap for her won. Oh yes let me tell you about the ""guitar"". Normally one assumes that a guitar is a musical instrument not a cardboard cutout that might have a "signature" on it, (and by "signature", I mean photo-copied stamp). But you would be wrong as we were. So at this point we realize that the "highlight" of the evening was pretty much over. Luckily we got there before they ran out of the Camp Rock poster that Ava was really excited for and the other free crap that they got. Once home I realized that we just collected a bunch of junk RD has had for a while seeing as how one of the free stuff was Easter Egg decals of Enchanted. (Now I know what I am going to be doing tomorrow)
The only saving grace of the evening was the fact that the Balloon Museum was free to view tonight. That part was actually nice and with the rising price of gas it justified the trip out there. We spent the rest of the evening checking out the ballooning stuff. Then we go to a cool thing where you can do a virtual simulation of being in a hot air balloon. We got to watch two kids hang out in it and not get off of it even when Shane and I loudly commented about how they were giving away free Nintendo WIIs (a lie). That didn't work so Shane came in with "Now their giving away Nintendo Wii's, and still they didn't move, not even when Shane upped the ante with "Wow, naked girls!". Needless to say we didn't get to experience virtual hot air ballooning but we did get to try to make a tornado. Eventually the time ended with a slightly disapointed Ava but with a good old fashioned trip to Starbucks for some liquid happiness.
To recap the night

Jonas Brother's Camp Rock Party.....sad
Radio Disney as hosts of party......sucked big time
New Balloon Museum..................ok to visit since it was free
Kids who didn't give up ride........losers
Jonas Brother's signed "Guitar".....suckiest thing of all
Calming cup of Starbucks Coffee.....priceless

Guitar Hero
Submitted by Natalie on Tue, 2008-06-24 02:08.
Well pretty much everyone in my family loves Guitar Hero. Mom can't quite do it, her carpel tunnelhurts her hand to bad but she can hit the green notes.lol Dad was really good, better than most of us on our first try. Dusty thinks he is good, but sadly he is not. Shane of course is good, what else is new. I have a song called Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs that I enjoy playing and listening too. The only thing I don't care for is the characters of course but then again it's suppose to be Rock and Roll so go figure. One night I was doing a guitar battle with "The Devil", a character from that you play at the nd and we were battling on the Devil went down to Georgia when Ava and her friend Ally came into the living room. I was concentrated as you have to when you are up against him and so Ava knew not to bother me. She turned to Ally and said "Hold on Ally, my mom is battling the Devil" to which I am sure Ally was confused.lol Needless to say that broke my concentration and I lost. Luckily the only thing that got lost was my battle and not any souls.lol I eventually beat him but still cannot beat Tony Morrell. One day!!!

Happy Father's Day!
Submitted by Natalie on Mon, 2008-06-16 04:31.
Shane's father's day just flew bye! First the day began with the five of us just hanging out in our bed laughing and loving our little family. Then as Shane showered the girls got ready so we could take Daddy for breakfast. Shane got out the the shower and we made sure he wore the father's day shirt Ava made him last year in Kindergarten. It's a fantastic shirt that had purple puffed paint that says "#1 Dad" and the her hand prints in teal. Quite a pretty shirt I must say! Shane almost "forgot" to wear but I made sure to remind him. Then we headed for breakfast only to find most places with huge waiting lines. Shane decided, (since it was his day) that we would grab a McDonald meal which wasn't great for me but the kids played and had fun and we relaxed to it was worthwhile. We had planned to go to the Antique shop on San Mateo but as it was closed we headed for Joann's Fabric instead. Shane helped me pick out some great quilting mags and then a color wheel since my sense of color compliments is pretty bad. After picking up some supplies and more we came home and relaxed. The kids played while Nova and I took a snooze and Shane played PS3 golf. I laid on his lap and slept and Kennedy fell asleep in Nova's car seat.lol Then once he got me awake (it took some doing) we had a little Bar-B-Que and had a good dinner just our little family. Then after cleaning up and baths Nova feel asleep and Shane and I watched Cloverfield. I got bugged at the ending which if you watched it you know why. I didn't work on Kennedy's quilt as I planned but I did cut it out last night and planned by layout. It should be really cute and I plan to take my time and work slowly on it. I just want to finish it by her birthday. Nova's turned out cute, even with all the errors I made. I just have to remember that practice makes perfect. Shane and I are planning to make one together once I make Ava hers which I found a great pattern in a mag today that we might do. But to get back to Father's day I am happy it went well and look forward to it again next year! Hope all your men had a good father's day too!

Love to Shane who is a terrific father!

The June book choice
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2008-05-30 02:04.
Heather has picked the book Stardust by Neil Gaiman as our new book to read. She said it is in paperback and also available at the Library. It looks to be a fun lighthearted read. Just as a FYI I got some info from the long haired dude at Page One and he said that it looks like Page One Too will be joining into one building.

Looking forward to the book discussion and look forward to the e-vite from Lanette once Heather determines a date and time and place. Here is to hoping her closing on her house goes well!!!

Memorial Day
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2008-05-30 01:58.
I can only say how blessed I am to have the family that I have. It is hard to explain how wonderful they are. My grandma was a part of a close knit family, the Richards. She was one of seven siblings; John, Ruth(granny to me), Rose, Laura, Tom, and the twins Teddy and Deannie. I never knew John, he passed as a young man but the five sister and Tom were all very very close. Growing up there was hardly a summer that went by that we didn't attend some type of pot luck or get together with everyone. And as we grew up the family grew and grew. When my granny passed her sister, my great aunt, filled that missing space and became extended "grannies" to us Nichols kids. Sadly the past few years as seen all of the sister pass one by one. They went in order as well thankfully they didn't go together and we still had one or more to hold on too. Deannie passed away last year and with her death all of sister were reunited leaving only my Uncle Tom. That was a hard thing to see this weekend because his wife passed a few years ago as well. Thankfully he has a wonderful daughter that he has moved close too so he is not alone. What I noticed this weekend is that as my Granny and Aunts are gone their children, my aunts and second cousins have once again moved in and filled their void. As we were at my Grandparents grave I lost my strength and began to cry and was just so full of grief and sadness. Shane of course was comforting to me but it was Linda, Laura's Aunt who came by my side and swept me in a hug and just talked to me and reminded me that not only are my Grandparents reunited with each other but the sisters are back together as well. And of course she and my other "aunts" were here to fill their place. Her words really were such a comfort.
The other hard part of the weekend was seeing Brent's (my cousin)grave. His headstone was beautiful. It has a carving on the black marble of the tree and the stars that he would see at his home. He is so missed by everyone that it is still hard to speak about. He touched so many lives and truly inspired us.
Oh yeah the lady who bought my Grandparent historic home ruined it and the neighborhood completely. Now she is trying to sell it. Lets just say that I hope she has to take a loss on it.

On to summer and such

Our trip to Taos
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2008-05-09 13:01.
Our trip was neat and relaxing, and also a little smelly since we had a few bouts of vomit but I'll get to that. To begin we left early so that threw me into a whirlwind of packing and finishing up housework. Shane did most of the packing and actually did an excellent job only leaving my body soap behind. Seeing as how I am the one who does the packing always I was pretty impressed at how well he did. I guess he just got moved up on the chore ladder. (He will never be allowed to mop the bathroom though, EVER!!!) So finally we are on our way to Taos and the Parragon Inn which I reserved earlier for the wonderful price of $49 a night. (Again that is something I will address later!) We made a few stops along the way but didn't rush and just enjoyed the drive. Finally we get to Taos and find the Hotel and Shane goes to check in. Now this is where the trip began to show me that you never know what you might find in Taos. As Shane is checking in the girls and I wait in the car and I begin to notice that the dude behind the counter doesn't seem to be checking in Shane. So as I am wondering what was up I notice two people park and begin to walk towards the door. Ok let me see if I can describe them to you. Oh yeah. Pimp Daddy and his hoe!!! That right. Now I am thinking what did I get us into but then I see another couple who look like they are ok so I calm down a little. Shane comes out and tells me that their computers are down so he has to fill out the paperwork later but we have the rooms. Truthfully I would have been ok if we had to go to another place but still we are ok and head to the room. So Shane has the key, and I and the girls wait for him to open the door and once he does he turns to me and says "You are no longer allowed to choose the rooms!"lol Ok so it wasn't a fleabag hotel but it wasn't the most updated room either. It is always nice though when you can sit on the toilet and have one knee touch the door and the other the tub. But hey $50 bucks a night seemed like a steal. The next day we head out for breakfast and find a place called the stray cat. The food was great and a good price. Since we just joined Weight Watchers (yup that's right I said WE) I wanted to stay on track. So I did but I noticed my stomach felt funny. I chalked it up to my lady visitor, (too much info I know but it is what it is.) Then we head to Wal-Mart since Taos has no Target:( I and Ava needed warmer pants since we didn"t pack them) As we wrer looking in that ass-backward store Shane and Kennedy went for something which I can't remember now. Ava is looking at the pants I found when I hear it, the most awefull sound. Kennedy hurled everywhere! Needless to say that hurried us out of walmart. Back at our room I bath and redress Nova and give her some pedialite and we head out for a drive around Red River and Angelfire. Our drive was awesome and so relaxing. It was soooo beautiful and no one blew chunks! In Angelfire we got some great coffee and just had a wonderful time. Then we came home and relaxed until dinner which wasn"t good at all so I won't discuss it. We ended the night with Shane and the girls swimming and Nova and I watching. Then back to bed for us all. Remember my stomach ache? Well it returned at about 4 in the morning. Luckily I am a trooper and I forged ahead so we could have another good day. to be continued

Nursemaid's Elbow
Submitted by Natalie on Mon, 2008-04-28 18:02.
We had a little scare last night. Shane, Dusty, Sandy, the girls and I were enjoying dinner last night around 8 when I passed Nova to Shane so I could eat without holding her. She had woke up just as we sat down and wanted to be held so I was holding her at the table. Once Shane was done he wanted to hold her and I passed her to him. He went to turn her around to face him and her right arm got stuck. He heard a little pop and she began to cry. It happened so suddenly and her crying was loud but not piercing that it took us a few minutes to determine if she had dislocated her shoulder. While Shane was running to Walgreens for Tylenol (what a time to be out of it), I laid her on the bed and although she had stopped crying I noticed she wouldn't move her arm. I brought her out to the living room and placed her on at the rug and showed Dusty and Sandy and they agreed she wasn't moving it. Shane came home and we left the girls with Sandy and Dusty and went to the Emergency room. I would say we got there about 8:30pm. Nova cried off and on but never moved her arm. Finally after x-rays of both arms we were seen and it was determined she had Nursemaid's Elbow which is the name given for an injury where one bone of the elbow joint is pulled out of place and gets stuck in that position. It is due to the a weakness in the ligaments of the elbow that some children have at this age. Fortunately it was easily remedied with a pop back that took only a second. Nova was smiling right after and laughing and then feel right asleep, then again it was only 2:00 am. Today she is a little quiet and tired but is moving her arms just like nothing happened. Of course Shane and I are still exhausted mainly from being worried. Aside from Ava being Jaundice after she was born we have never had to bring the kids to the ER so it was kinda a shock for us. Thankfully it turned out ok.

Why I'm not allowed to cut my girls hair!
Submitted by Natalie on Thu, 2008-04-10 22:17.
Sometimes I forget that I did not go to Beauty school. Sometimes I forget that I am not a professional beautician. Sometimes I get the urge to cut hair and I sometimes forget that my girls' hair does not have a magic button that regrows their hair instantly. I also forget that my special hair cutting skills aren't that special at all, and that I really don't know how to do an undercut. So today when I noticed Kennedy looking a little shaggy in the bangs I had to "remember" that I have been forbidden to cut anymore hair. PERIOD!!!

You know you have a serious problem when you are locked in the bathroom with your "victim" while your husband is working in the living room. You also have to realize that you have a problem when you see the hair piling up on the floor for the "little trim" you had hoped to accomplish. Again you must realize that you have a problem when you refuse to open the door and are hoping that your daughter won't want to leave the bathroom for the next few weeks or until her dad goes to bed. To his credit Shane did not begin to yell upon forcing the door open, (you forget he is stronger than you), and only "laughed" when he saw his oldest daughter with formerly long hair suddenly with above shoulder length hair. Also you are amazed at his stride when he begins to calmly "fix" the damage that you have done by trying to even out the lopsided mess, especially when you know that in the not-so-distant past you were FORBIDDEN to touch any of our childrens' hair again, after a bad bang episode, in which you readily agreed too. But here you are explaining that it is not your fault and that the scissors just cut where they want to. Thankfully he is able to somewhat fix the damage and luckily your seven year old does not realize that her mom has given her a very uneven hairdo. So this all comes rushing back to you as you look at your two year old's bangs and suddenly you REMEMBER that you are NOT ALLOWED to cut her hair (again) ,... (EVER EVER again). However you also know that you are too cheap to take her to get her hair cut because you KNOW that you can just even her bangs and that it can't be that hard. (SIGH) You wonder how long you can hold out before you get a hold of her and bribe her to hold still and not make a noise while you "make her look like Ava"!

The April Book Choice
Submitted by Natalie on Sat, 2008-04-05 04:45.
Before I announce the next book choice let me first say how great I thought our last book choice was. Schuyler's Monster is so far by my favorite pick of all, aside from East of Eden because I love that book almost as much as I go Gone with the Wind. Our meeting was small tonight and I am not sure how many people did read Schuyler's Monster so I want to emphasis that if you haven't read it PLEASE read it. It's that good!!! Then read about it online at http://www.schuylersmonster.com That little girl is captivating. Send her a dinosaur if you got one too!

The new book is Confessions by Paris Hilton. (Just Kidding) I would never do that.lol If we are going to read some trash like that then we will wait for the Lindsay Lohan autobiography.lol I know how much you all want to read about that. Now for the actual title... Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer is the new book. I have not read this book yet but have seen the movie and obviously heard the complete soundtrack. (Eddie Vedder did the soundtrack and if you haven't heard the song Guarantee then you have to go to ITunes right now and download it. (Just spend the $1.99, if you don't love the song then there is something mentally wrong with you and maybe you need to look into some medication) Anyway I looked at Amazon, (see the link) and found the book for an inexpensive amount of money. I highly recommend the movie though it's great and I think it will be a great addition to talk about at the meeting.

Here is a link to a you tube video of Schuyler. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IWDvwvbWLA&NR=1 There will be more videos with regards to her dad and mom speaking about life with Schuyler if you like to see more.

Hey if you are looking for a movie to watch I also HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest the documentary THE KING OF KONG-- A FIST FULL OF QUARTERS. Lanette, I forgot to mention it at the meeting but I have no doubt that Allan will like it since he and Shane seem to like the same stuff. Ladies you have go watch it as well. It is hilarious in a sad "Really there are people who actually act like that way" and a "Man that guy is a douche bag" kinda show. Just rent it, you won't be sorry.

Last two items that are important. 1. I came home tonight and discovered Ava can now ride her bike alone without help or training wheels. That is a big deal for us!

2. YOU ALL ARE MOST WELCOME FOR ME BRINGING BACK NKOTB----------MAY 16 WILL GO DOWN IN INFAMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HANG TOUGH TILL NEXT TIME

A New Buck!
Submitted by Natalie on Mon, 2008-03-31 16:54.
For those who don't already know Misty has some new news. She is expecting a baby in the fall. Actually in mid September to be exact. I would tell you she is due around the middle of the month but she likes to hold on to those babies and keep them in her womb longer than they tell her too so my guess is that she will deliver around the 20th.lol
Congratulations to the Bucks!

Robert's having a boy!
Submitted by Natalie on Thu, 2008-02-21 17:53.
Who is Robert? I don't know him but I do know that they are having a boy. How do I know, because he texted message Shane that he was having a boy. Of course I texted him back and congratulated him, only after calling his number to ask him if Shane was the father of this boy.lol I mean what would you do if your husband left his phone at home and you get the text message? First I called Shane to inform him that finally after having three beautiful girlie girls he finally created a boy, which would have been followed by Good luck to you in your future life raising your son. Shane of course laughed and told me to call the number which I did and got Robert's voice mail, (see how I know Robert is the dad.) I then decide well if he is excited enough about having a boy to send valuable text messages to strangers then the least I can do is text him back CONGRATULATIONS!. (I considered also wishing my good luck with the circumcision but decided that would be sarcastic and I decided to be nice). Then I get a call back from the baby daddy asking me why I called and so I explain about the message and he again told me he was having a boy and so I congratulated him again. So if you come across a Robert, who is having a boy send him my warm regards because he did what Shane and I could not. Robert made a BOY!

PS. Did I tell you my New Years Resolution is to NOT be pregnant this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is Shalini when you need her??????????
Submitted by Natalie on Wed, 2008-02-13 16:44.
Last week the school newsletter had a brief paragraph about turning in science fair projects for the 3-6 grades. Ava's class and all the 1-2 grades were not required to do a project so I didn't worry about one. Then yesterday I picked Ava up from school and she informed me that she VOLUNTEERED to bring one in tomorrow (today). I asked her what she was talking about and she replied that someone called her teacher over the intercom and asked if there were any science projects to bring to the gym and Mrs. Stader (her teacher) said no. So Ava told Mrs. Strader that she had one at home to bring and Mrs. Strader told her she could bring one in the morning. Now the project that Ava was thinking of was this invention she made with a paper plate and some string. The plate is the moon and in the evening she pulls the string down and the "moon" goes up and vice versa for morning. It was pretty inventive for a 7yr old to figure out but not a science project. So I call Shane at work and inform him that he can't work late because he and Ava have a science project to figure out. Of course he is excited and begins to plan something elaborate and then realizes that it is due in the morning so then he makes me call Mrs. Strader to find out if she needs a back board and what needs to be done. I made the call and found out that she can turn one in but it won't be judged and to not go through too much trouble etc... We get Shane and head to Hobby Lobby for the solar system. Finally we decide that her project will be "Is Earth the largest Planet in our Solar System?" We spend the night gluing the sun and the planets to the board and convincing Ava that Pluto is no longer a planet and that the sun might look like a planet but is in fact a star.lol Finally we get the project done and take it to school. It turned out pretty good for a last minute thing, even if I got the planets wrong and told Ava that Earth was Uranus and that it was the fourth largest planet not the fifth.lol Glad that I am not being graded on it.

Shalini you better get ready for next year because I have been bragging about all of your science fair accomplishments to Ava and told her how you will be able to give her some great help so I am giving you fair warning for next year!!!

The first book of 2008!
Submitted by Natalie on Thu, 2008-01-17 17:24.
How exciting to start off the new year with a good book selection. Shalini has picked the new book and it is Cane River. You can find out more about the book at this site http://www.lalitatademy.com/index.html

I have read this book a few time, (I am an avid re-reader) and I really like this book! You might have read it too, it was an Oprah book choice. You might find it at the dollar store, that is where some of us found it. Anyway I hope you all will read it. A short summary is it centers around a family of females who lived with slavery and the aftermath of slavery. It is really good, at least I enjoyed it. I think we will have A LOT to talk about. We will meet in Feb. but the date will be announced shortly. (I am going to have to have my wisdom tooth pulled so I have to wait to find out about that before I give a date) Also at the meeting I will be bringing Nova since there is no way Shane can handle all three girls. (The oldest two still are jealous of Daddy holding the baby so it's pretty hard for him still. Nova is defiantly a mama's girl!) I am hoping that we get to see Allyson as well but no pressure Lanette.

So look for the book (I have to find mine again, so many books so many places to loose them!)

Have fun reading!

Happy New Year!
Submitted by Natalie on Sat, 2008-01-05 23:02.
Hi everyone,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am looking forward to the year. First off I am not pregnant and am enjoying that freedom.lol Secondly I have three beautiful girls who are just amazing. Third Shane and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary in May, which is stunning to think that it has come by so fast. I wish a tiny bit that I was writing this and saying that we have a fabulous anniversary trip to NY City planned but we don't.lol Kinda hard to do with the girls. Never the less we are looking forward to moving into the double digits of marriage and are feeling pretty thankful for what we have together and for our family.
I am also looking forward to the new year with the kick ass book club again. Shalini is going to send me a title and maybe be can meet at the end of the month or early next month. I just want to get going again. Thank goodness for the internet, otherwise my mind would be going slowly crazy from not having much adult interaction. Due to Nova being born and all I haven't had much reading. And just as she began to sleep through the night we all got Christmas cold and that sleeping situation has gone out the window. But I think we are maybe finally getting better. Once Ava is back and school and get are back to a routine I hope it returns and then I will be able to concentrate on a book or two. SO please join me again with the book club and save my brain from ruin. Don't even ask me what shows I have begun re watching due to midnight feeding. (Lets just say Kelly and Dylan anyone)

Happy new year everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nova Mae Rowe
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2007-11-02 03:50.
Nova is here! She came into the world at 4:54 on Sunday, October 28th. After a lot of false labor for several days my sister came up here and rubbed my ankles and sure enough it set me into labor. Thank goodness! My water broke between 3:00 and 3:20 on Sunday. Then the contractions started and came so rapidly they didn't really have a set pattern. So once they were 9 min apart we called for the doc and then headed for the hospital. Once we got there I was at 5 and I told them I would go quick. They moved me to the delivery room, checked me again and I was at 7. After that it gets pretty hazy and embarassing. I was in a LOT of pain with Nova and of course they wouldn't give me pain meds. But at 4:54 she was born. She was pretty bruised, and her eyes were blood shot but gorgeous never the less. I am recovery pretty fast so the is one blessing of going so quick.

Thanks to everyone for the sweet messages.

False Labor
Submitted by Natalie on Tue, 2007-10-16 16:11.
We had some false labor moments last night. For the last few months I have had a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions and although they are uncomfortable they were not unbearable. When they got bad I would take a minute or two to relax, and drink water just like all the websites tell you to do. Of course lately they have been happening more frequently and at inappropriate times, like when we had to walk the long trek at the Balloon Fiesta, (if for some reason I ever find myself pg again I WILL get the wheelchair instead of joking about it!), or when I am driving in rush hour traffic. But last night was different. They started while I was making cornbread for dinner, so I finished the dough and put into to bake for 20 min and sat down. They let up a little and then I went on my way. During dinner they started back up, but I ignored it again and decided that I would soak the bowls and clean up the kitchen in a while. They stopped and Shane and I played with the girls and then I suggested that I was tired and needed to go to bed. Of course I was bluffing, (I was tired but I wasn't going to miss Heroes) and suggested that I would only be able to get through the night if I had a cappuccino. So he reluctantly went to make them, if I helped. Now he doesn't need my help but he likes to show me how to make them in the hopes that one day I will make them but my feeling is this, I make the regular coffee every morning and usually dinner so the cappuccino thing is his domain, like taking out the trash. Before my stomach became the size of a slugbug I "could" take the trash out at night but that is pretty much the only household chore he is responsible for. Don't get me wrong he does pick up after himself better than the girls or I, and he cooks usually 1-2 a week, (although his cooking usually creates more of a mess for me later.lol) So taking out the trash, making cappuccinos, and putting gas in the car is his "job." Back to last night, I went to "help" him and they came back, and they were strong to say the least. So I sat down and waiting for them to stop. Only this time they didn't. Then the back pain began and let me tell you I was not happy to say the least. I started to drink water and switched positions but nothing worked. Of course Nova kept moving which made the pain much worse. I waited half and hour and began to time them. Only they were lasting for so long and coming so quick it was hard to tell where they began and ended. I called April and asked her if all of her contractions began differently and after talking with her I decided that I should just keep trying to time them. OF course within minutes of her hanging up my mom calls. Now I have both of them calling and I am trying to relax but it's kinda hard when you are dealing with the girls and the calls and such. Eventually, an hour after mom's call they finally stop and just come and go. I let them know that it's was not going to happen and them Mom tells me that it sounds like I am gonna have a nice time with back labor. (Yeah I kinda figured that out), and April told me she is relieved because last night "wasn't really a good time for her." Lol Some good did come out of this experience. 1. I realized that I was still unprepared. My bag was only half packed, I still hadn't got pj's and a change of clothes into it although I did have my toiletries and the baby stuff. 2. I didn't have a bag packed for the girls in case they need to stay overnight. So last night I got those bags done. 3. I don't want to be in labor.lol As bad as those pains were I KNOW that they are nothing like the actual thing and now I am thinking that I might want to just reconsider this idea. Shane is on board with that, he told me last week I might have to just hold off for a few months cause his work schedule is not working out well for us.lol My "plan" is to try to go into labor on a Friday, so that he can be back at work on Monday. See how accomodating I can be? Meanwhile as I sit her and type this I still have to do the dishes from last night, and get the a laundry put away because in case something does happen soon I would like to come home to a clean house. (Well see how that turns out.)

It's the small things that make you happy!
Submitted by Natalie on Fri, 2007-09-28 17:39.
Sometimes the littlest thing in life can make all the difference, especially when it takes you by surprise, not by the the actual event but by how happy it makes you. This morning I went into Smiths and grabbed a shopping cart. The first one I grabbed was crap. The child seat wouldn't unfold regardless of how hard I tried to force it. To make matters worse I had Kennedy in my arms since she had taken off one sock and both shoes, her freaking favorite pastime of all.(seriously that girl can't seem to handle anything on her feet.) As I had my car in the shop having the brakes fixed, again, (another post, another time) Fred was driving me around to do errands. He dropped me off in front of Smiths since he had to run to work so that is why I was unable to properly re-sock and re-shoe her. So here I am holding her, having braxton hicks and trying in vain to get the cart to cooperate. Finally I just grabbed another cart and got her settled in the seat then put her clothing back on and let out my breath. Immediately I noticed that the cart turned so easily. Usually I get the junk cart, you know the one with the front wheel that refuses to be a team player, or I get the noisy one which announced to all Smith shoppers that you don't know how to pick a good cart amongst the hundred or so to choose from. Nope this cart was different and it caught my attention that the cart actually looked CLEAN! Upon further inspection I saw the child "safety belt", (actually I like to think of it as the "hold her butt to the seat so she can't climb out and try to run up and down the isle, or into people, or break something, belt") was brand new. Suddenly the realization that I had a new cart brought a smile to my face. Not only was it a smile because I had a working cart but the fact that it was NEW, and that I picked it out!!! I emerged victorious today in the shopping cart game!!! It was even better than getting the "close shaded by a tree spot" at the mall. Like I said it's the little things that can make you happy.

October's Book Choice
Submitted by Natalie on Thu, 2007-09-27 17:18.
Hey Ladies!

The book for October has been chosen, this time by Misty. The book is Twlight, by Stephanie Meyer. It is an appropriate choice for October since it centers around Vampires. And remember this is the last book of the year since we are taking a break for the Holidays,(and to let Lanette and I recover from something scarier than Vampire, CHILDBIRTH!!!. Just kidding Lanette!) So I hope to see you all at the meeting and since it's almost Halloween Misty is requesting us all to dress in our scariest Vampire attire, fangs and all.

See you there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fall is getting close!
Submitted by Natalie on Thu, 2007-08-30 17:05.
The best time of the year is vastly approaching. Fall is almost here and I couldn't be happier. Not only does the heat subside but the colors come out and the smell of roasting chili is in the air. I am looking forward to this fall almost as much as I look forward to one seven years ago when I was pregnant with Ava. At least this time I am not as nervous as I was with Ava. I don't have the fear that you do with your first. I remember bringing tiny Ava (5lbs 3oz) home and carrying her upstairs and calling my mom in tears as I was so overwhelmed with the responsibility of being a parent. Of course the fact that I was still having complications with hypertension and with Ava being early didn't make matters much better but we got through it and have keep her pretty much well and unharmed. Kennedy too although she did get the nasty burn on her arm that I still carry guilt about. With Kennedy I was a little more calm but her birth was without stress, with Shane, Ava, and I living in a new town without family. Once we got her home we were fine and now with Nova the biggest worry is how the heck is Kennedy going to like having a new baby around. Anyway that is all way off topic, back to the fall. Here is being able to cook dinner in the oven without dying of the heat and to getting rid of maternity close FOR GOOD and to putting on normal clothes that require using a button and zipper, not elastic.lol Also to pumpkins patches, and Halloween, and to Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie! Hurray for Fall, the best time of all! (sorry for the lame rhyme!)

September's Book

At long last we are reading a classic. East of Eden by John Steinbeck is the new book, and it should lead to a great book discussion. Have fun reading!

The Deathy Hallows
Submitted by Natalie on Sat, 2007-07-21 06:25.
After three mind numbing hours of games and boredom, along with people who not only dressed like characters from the book but also smelled as though they belonged in the middle ages I got it! I got book seven and now will be reading until I know the end and the fate of Harry Potter. Of course there has been some evidence this week to challenge my belief on how the book should end but I can only hope the book is such a great read that it won't matter. So now it is almost 1:00 am and I hope to get in a chapter or two this morning. So if you call me tomorrow or the next day don't be surprised if I am cranky due to lack of sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting near the middle

July's Book
Submitted by Natalie on Mon, 2007-07-09 23:18.
Sarah has picked the next book, it is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. This is also the first author to have be chosen a second time so the comparison between both books should make for an interesting discussion. Have a good read and see you at the meeting.

Long goodbye
Submitted by Natalie on Sun, 2007-07-08 02:00.
The end is near! Don't worry, I'm not a doomsday predictor but am speaking of the end of Harry Potter series and the end of a long and joyful ride. It is bittersweet to anticipate this last book, The Deathly Hollows. On one hand there is the excitement that comes with every edition in the series. Opening the book is to visit with old friends and to travel magically back to Hogwarts and to Harry's world. Only this time, (this is where bitter part lies) there won't be anymore "new books". We won't be eagerly anticipating the next book. This is the end of the line for the books and also for some of the characters. Of course the big question of all, the one that crazy bookies taking bets on it the most obvious. Will Harry die? I have already been quite vocal to any who will listen that I believe he will. Actually what I have said is that if it was my book, (Don't I wish!) then i would have Harry die. Don't get ruffled all of you Harry lovers, it isn't out of meanness or spite that I would kill of a main and beloved character but out of love for Harry, (you heard me I love that character almost as much as I love Scarlett O'Hara), that I would end his life in a brave and courageous way much like he lived. Why would I do that? Simple. When reading all the volumes one theme repeats, Harry and his strong desire to be with his parents. Unlike other characters Harry has this strong tie to death and for him death, as long as he defeats Voldemort before hand, will the the only way to reunite with Lily and James Potter, the two people who loved Harry the most and whose Harry made powerful enough to defeat Voldemort. (Read the book if you don't know why!) Therefore while I would be sad if Ron or Hermione or Hagrid died, (out of the three my best guess would be Hagrid dying, though I wouldn't bet to much money on it) I would feel happy for Harry for his reunification with his parents. Now don't get me wrong, it will be a sad happiness, lets not forget that I have a daughter and several nieces who have seen the movies and adore Harry. It's going to be Bridge to Terrabithia all over again. For them a happier more peaceful ending would be appreciated. However the reader and "wannabe writer" feels a more profound ending is needed. Not to mention the closure that will be given if there isn't possibility for someone later to write further novels. Anyone who read Scarlett will understand what I mean. Closure will help us sad HP fans move on with our lives as we wonder "What will we read now". ??????????????//

So my mother's intuition was wrong!
Submitted by Natalie on Thu, 2007-06-14 15:40.
We are having a girl! I got my ultrasound today and expected to hear that we were having a boy. Then I saw the image of a butt and then the front and didn't see anything poking out!lol I said "It's a girl?" and the ultrasound lady said "Looks like" and we looked again and sure enough she's a girl! I have to tell you that I was a little sad, if you will, not because she is a girl but because I was wrong.lol Then I got to see her face in 3D and the first thing I thought was "She looks like Kennedy!" The next pic was her looking really pissed to be being messed with and of course now I know she is definitely one of my girls.lol So here's to letting go of the idea of having a son, of camouflage, and of all things Ninja and hello to Pink and Princess!

This might give you the creeps!
Submitted by Natalie on Mon, 2007-05-28 20:23.
So yesterday I got the girls in bed and decided that I was going to take a bath. Shane is working at his desk and Fred is not here, all is calm and peaceful. I noticed that there were two rolls of tp on the sink, seeing that I am the only one who will ever put the rolls on the holder. I go to grab a roll and got the scare of my life A GRANDDADDY LONGLEG!!!!!!!! Needless to say that it scared the crap out of me! (no pun intended) Luckily there is another roll so I hurry and finish what I am doing so I can get away from it. Now I know that they aren't dangerous and all that jazz but still I am chicken. Of course once safely away from the spider I know what I have to do. Quickly and quietly I go back to the bedroom to get Shane.
"Shane, please come quick"
"What?" he replies following me to the bathroom
"Sit on the toilet" which he finally does after prodding
"Now grab for the tp" and then he does and jumps.lo

Then we try to get it out of the house but both of us are creeped out by the whole incident and in the end someone lost their life. Shane is still with us so you figure it out.

Moral of the story....Always make sure you look before you grab and keep two rolls handy.

The Shadow
Submitted by Natalie on Tue, 2007-05-22 19:45.
Slowly over that last year we have come to see a shadow living amongst us. This shadow comes in the form a little girl and has blue eyes and curly hair. She walks in the steps of Ava and has learned from her how to be. I had an eerie deja vu today as the shadow put on a backpack and with her small voice "Bye mom", blew a kiss to me and stood up. For a second I saw two girls, one of her and the other a few years back of Ava with the same backpack pretending to be off to school. This is why I am thankful that I had two girls. Although years apart they are so close they could be twins, with luck they will continue to maintain that spirit. I have to admit that the idea of having another girl is kinda sweet so that the Shadow will become the tree for a new shadow. Makes life happy doesn't it?

Nine Years!
Submitted by Natalie on Sun, 2007-05-20 01:44.
Tomorrow Shane and I will celebrate nine years of marriage. In some ways I am amazed at how quickly the years have passed and then again it also seems like we have always been married. We spent the day spending time with our girls, and we had a great time. We went to breakfast and actually had a nice good waitress. Then we parked at the bottom of Nob Hill and did some window shopping. When Shane and I first dated, and after we were married we used to walk along those stores almost everyday. Now we drive by and remember going to the Lobo for cheap dates, horrible presented movies and we miss it so much. We looked in the Lobo today and all the ambiance is gone and replaced with Nob Hill snottiness. Most stores we just looked at but we did go into the Spy Shop. The guy tried hard to sell us some stuff but the closest thing we thought about was the license plate spray to avoid red lights. Another stop was Birdland for Lava Lamps but no luck. Eventually we came home and later celebrated by having a BBQ with the girls and Fred. With luck the next nine years will be as pleasant even if by then the girls will be hitting the teenage years.lol

Tiny feelings!
Submitted by Natalie on Thu, 2007-05-17 02:29.
The baby has been moving around for a few days now and is pretty active. I am enjoying this part of the pregnancy for several reasons; first I only puke about once a day, usually in the mornings. That is a huge step for me, I can live with that no problem. Second every little movement tells me he (I only think he is a boy but am not sure.) Lastly this has got to be that last pregnancy so I am trying to pay closer attention to it, so I can remember it. Now if I get pregnant you'll know that is Shane's fault and didn't follow through with his promise, (you know what I mean!) So here is to the last pregnancy and no we won't be trying for a boy his this one is a girl! (You would be surprised that I get that, are people crazy?)

We finally got a winner!
Submitted by Natalie on Tue, 2007-05-15 23:46.
I don't know about you all but I think that this month's book choice has been the best yet! The odd thing for me is that I refused to watch the movie, I mean who wants to watch something about hookers? That is until I read the book and now I am totally hooked and can't wait to watch the movie. I won't say much more about it until we have our meeting but I finished the book last night and can't wait to talk about it so I am gonna harass Heather for a meeting date and soon!

If you haven't read it you are missing out!

May's Book Choice
Submitted by Natalie on Sun, 2007-05-06 02:04.
Hello all!

Thanks to Heather for choosing Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden for the May book club choice. This will be an interesting choice since many of the club members have seen the movie and I am sure will be comparing the book to it. As always Lanette will send the e-vite once Heather has figured out the date and meeting place but she does think it will be late this month or early next. Keep your eyes posted!

From what I hear from everyone May is stacking up to be a big month so let us know if you know of any dates that will be a huge conflict or anything that arises.

Good luck reading about prostitution!

April's Book Choice
Submitted by Natalie on Tue, 2007-04-03 03:55.
Sharon has picked our new book for April. The book is The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. This is an excellent choice for a book, I read it already and am happy to read it again. I promise this will be a book we will all love and look forward to talking about.
http://us.penguingroup.com/nf/Book/BookDisplay/0,,9780143037149,00.html

At the last meeting we discussed Running with Scissors. I know a lot of you couldn't finish the book and I understand how hard it was to read. I hope you will give this book a chance because it is a touching and easy to read novel.

Sharon will pick the date and place and will get the info to Lanette when she knows.

Have a great Easter weekend!
